2017 is Interlinkx CiC & CC Hackney's tenth year.

Due to Covid 19 virus all club face to face activities are suspended until further notice. Please check CC Hackney's website for news updates and how to stay in touch during this period.

The news in 2020 is that Interlinkx has been
converted from a community interest company
into a charitable incorporated organisation under the terms of the Charitable Incorporated Organisations (Conversion) Regulations. In the process of conversion, the organisation has changed its name to Cycling Club Hackney CIO. Meanwhile, the community amateur sports club called Cycling Club Hackney has been wound up and has gifted its assets to CC Hackney CiO

Interlinx CiC, was responsible for CC Hackney'sHQ/house and home as well as leading on fund raising
& community outreach. In 2017 was the ten year anniversary since founding in 2007. Our partner organisation
(CC Hackney) came into being later in the same year.

Fawcett comedy/bike club. Thursday 15th November FY*C

Time for the procedure to go ahead - at last. Kevin Cabey's bike is about to be operated on by experienced Bike Dr. Keir Apperley MS, Ph.P, Bo.D, Hnz - yours truly; a left hand crank seizure with complications, stripped threads, no good, a chronic case, the theatre is ready...

Instruments used: A ball joint breaker (Nelly) & the lump hammer (Larry)

...across the theatre a young trainee was doing on the job learning; how to use a floor pump in the most effective way possible:

Yet another successful outcome down to the skilled hands of Bike Dr. YT

Better floor pump action

Neshaune

It was a very busy session this evening. Including a visit from local basket ball coach, Joseph who made it to our bike medical centre on his ailing vintage cycle - thanks to Dr. Patrick Field PLt, Gt.R, Lx.R, Hnz and others in attendance, his steed is now back to full health again. Impressed and relieved, Jo has offered to return with a basket ball to perform some hoop skills; a demonstration for us to take place in our court yard next week - all being well.

Joseph signs in.

two new members last week - Vivian and Emmanuel seen here with Kevin and Keir.

I did a 'Dr Bike' on the next-door Webb Estate last Friday; a good chance to spread the word about the Fawcett. Maybe some of the young people I met there will pass by tonight?

Thursday 25th October - session pictures & art image

New member Daniel Rigby gets to grips with his bike, assisted by staff member Kevin Cabey. Enough jokes and funniness came out between these two lads on the case - a comedy act bordering on a health & safety hazard this evening.

all sorts

Though most of the orphan bikes that come through have a 'sports' specification we get other examples.
Michaela's first restoration project - now almost finished - has a step-through frame, 3-speed hub-gear, a back-pedal 'coaster' brake, mudguards and luggage rack.

win-win situation.

Local resident - also father of a long serving member - Clive needed his bike serviced. He plans to try commuting to work.
We checked his machine over and, by way of thanks - he donated some useful supplies....

new recruit at the Fawcett

I arrived to open up yesternight to find a small boy in a yellow jersey lying on his back on the concrete eager for the action to begin.

I didn't get his name but he's certainly keen. When Michaela made him a banner he stoutly waved it all evening surveying the action from the top of the filing cabinet.

New free resource

Madegood - which is coincidentally based in the London Borough of Hackney, also known as bicycle paradise - has a new online bike repair manual.

It's free and growing, and useful for those times when the Fawcett Bike Club isn't open...

Fawcett fuelled by a couple of bikes

Two *le-git bikes destined for the Fawcett Bike club stand locked up outside my door awaiting transport to Upper Clapton Road. The Saracen was donated by a colleague of mine from 'Young Hackney' and the Giant was passed onto me by my neighbour on the ground floor. These gifts (that will keep on giving) are much appreciated and will arrive in the right young hands of proven worth and suitability - as deemed by our team at the centre.
These days we struggle to locate second hand bikes to fuel our project, this is mainly due to Hackney Police maintaining their current policy of exporting accumulated bikes out of the borough and not towards our project occasionally as used to be the case. This is reportedly to avoid the possibility of conflict and problems resulting in unclaimed bikes being released back into the same community that they came from.
So appealing to anyone out there with a legitimate cycle to donate for the cause please get in touch or go direct to the centre at Fawcett Estate Garage 8 on a Thursday evening between 6 & 8pm.

-------------------------------------------

*le·git/liˈjit/

Adjective:
  1. Legitimate; legal; conforming to the rules.
  2. (of a person) Not engaging in illegal activity or attempting to deceive; honest.

Synonyms:
licit - lawful

None of them are new but they're all good quality and have plenty of life left in them.
