2017 is Interlinkx CiC & CC Hackney's tenth year.

Due to Covid 19 virus all club face to face activities are suspended until further notice. Please check CC Hackney's website for news updates and how to stay in touch during this period.

The news in 2020 is that Interlinkx has been
converted from a community interest company
into a charitable incorporated organisation under the terms of the Charitable Incorporated Organisations (Conversion) Regulations. In the process of conversion, the organisation has changed its name to Cycling Club Hackney CIO. Meanwhile, the community amateur sports club called Cycling Club Hackney has been wound up and has gifted its assets to CC Hackney CiO

Interlinx CiC, was responsible for CC Hackney'sHQ/house and home as well as leading on fund raising
& community outreach. In 2017 was the ten year anniversary since founding in 2007. Our partner organisation
(CC Hackney) came into being later in the same year.

A racing bike in the making

Following this report from the fund raiser event at the Concorde Centre, here's an image of what's coming up:

We raised enough for a quality racing bike.

A big thank you going out to all that supported and came along to the CCH Fund Raiser Party at the Concorde Centre Youth Hub last Friday evening. It was a lot of fun with Caribbean food, a right old mix of music (plus bass), volleyball, table tennis, hoola hooping, and MC free-styling.
As well as to the managers & workers at the Concorde Centre a special mention must go to Interlinkx CiC staff; Kevin Cabey & Sulaymaan Altamash who helped me as sound hands moving the MiHS system to and from the venue.

Including the match funding from an anonymous donation and with the support of London Fields Cycles I'm pleased to say that we raised enough for a £350.00 rebuild racing bike. This will be number one of the fleet to be available for quality cycling early in the new year. A date for another fund raiser/social event will be publicised in due course.

Cycling Report November 28th 2014
Guiness Youth Club Lee Valley Velopark Trip

On Tuesday 28th November 2014 the weather in London was beautiful; clear blue sky and warm - lucky! This was the day that 10 young cyclists from Guiness Youth Club (GYC) visited the Lee Valley Velopark in the Queen Elizabeth Park for the first time. They came to the Concorde Centre Bike Club via mini bus in good time after being collected by our driver Roger Steil and Hayley Birch. After greetings the group were issued with club cycles, head protection and a pre-ride briefing from myself; Young Hackney's lead cycling coach (Sports Unit).
Additional staff members Darren Popham, Norman Saggers and Fiona Meeks joined in for the car free ride around Hackney Marshes and across three bridges into the QE Park. Along the route we all observed autumnal trees, the River Lea, the Orbit statue and the 2012 Olympic stadium as a picture book back drop to 82 football pitches on Hackney Marshes.
On the last bridge close to London’s iconic Velodrome there was sense of excitement, a feeling like standing right next to someone world famous. Underneath us ran 1.5klm of road circuit and to the left we could see the BMX track start gates and main ramp.
After a respectful ride around the velodrome’s perimeter path we headed for main reception, took our bikes inside and went up stairs for refreshments in the cafĂ© while observing a training session. There were various questions from our young riders to answer about cycling at the Velopark and accessing cycle sport, but the main point was that this trip must be remembered as the first of many.

Outreach group travel to Springfield Hill Climb event - Saturday 10th October

This morning our outreach group travelled to join in the annual Springfield Hill Climb event that was being delivered by CC Hackney. Before heading out there was a medal ceremony for those 'local champions' who had raced their bikes against all comers at the Velopark road circuit seven days earlier.

All Abilities Cycling Festival @ Lee Valley Velopark - circuit racing Saturday 4th October 2014

Well done to all of the riders (young and old) as well as our Intrerlinkx CiC and CC Hackney staff/members who came along to help on Saturday. The event was the Legacy Supporters Festival at Lee Valley Velopark. There was some great racing on show, especially by those who'd pinned numbers on their backs for the first time.
Special thanks and appreciation must go to the supporting partners for this day; 'Young Hackney' (Hackney Council), The Concorde Centre and the programme sponsor - Freesport.

Full results to follow.

Thames visit number two...

As the group was bigger this time we decided to keep it simple and follow the same route as the last occasion we visited the Thames by Docklands .
We did manage to fit in two handicap scratch races across Hackney Marsh after witnessing some live Invicta Games cycling action at the Velopark on the way back.
All in all another rewarding Freesport sponsored outing where our group enjoyed a variety of environments and demonstrated their skills and social awareness in shared spaces on the way.

Out Reach prgramme: Interlinkx CiC & CC Hackney deliver

Thanks to generous funding from 'Freesport' (Mayor of London) coaching staff at Interlinkx CiC and CC Hackney have begun delivering a programme of instructed cycle rides for inner city young people who'd otherwise not access quality cycling.

These sessions have started well; On Saturday 23rg August our group rode along the River Lea tow path north all the way to Waltham Abbey and the Lea Valley White Water Centre for lunch. There was quite a lot of rain fall the night before we traveled and the tow path was lined with puddles; our bikes got splattered with white grit.

Last Sunday it was south via the Lime House Basin to reach the river Thames for a photo shoot. On the return there was a stop over for refreshments at the Lea valley Vellodrome and a chance for our new young riders to check out the excellent cycling facilities available there. Before heading back to the Concorde Centre cycle station we finished off with a fun grass track, scratch race right across Hackney Marsh!

spring into summertime

Everything is much nicer up at our base now the evenings are light.

We celebrated with attempts at riding a bike with asymmetric cranks. Why must they be parallel 180 degrees apart? Can 90 + 270 work?

Having just checked and tuned one of the new club bikes it was set-up with this novelty specification.

You can ride it, with a bit of practice but the general consensus is that it's not an improvement.

Happy dad - an even happier son with a bike to take home

Fawcett Estate Garage 8 - Thursday 6th March
By the end of this evening's session Yousef's son was delighted with his bike.
It was given to him by Interlinkx CiC after a thorough recondition service by Patrick & Moshe. What goes around comes back as local resident and regular attendee Yousef had previously donated two cycles to the project.

Moshe & Patrick look pleased to have been of service.

Too many bikes - a wait for ages and 30 come along all at once

After a long delay with empty cupboards we are now embarrassed with too many bikes. A wait for ages and 30 come along all at once.

Well it's a good problem to have and something of a tonic putting life back into Fawcett Bike Club. Many thanks to Bike Works for the bulk of this supply. The handling charge was paid for by Hackney Homes who deserve a shout for this too - thank you Sonia!

Additional second hand cycles were donated by A & S Cycles - thanks again for all of this; it's much appreciated especially I'm sure, by those young people and club members who have earned one of these half decent machines to take home to put to good use.
